Ms. Fowler's PowerPoint Presentation and the handout she sent "A
Gift of Authenticity" on how to open your mind to untapped desires
and fears are below. Please take a look at her materials. This was a
great meeting!. Here's what some of our members had to say about it:
“I found the presentation by Amy Fowler to be incredibly motivating
not only to my professional life but my personal life as well. Her stories
and information on how important it can be to network with all the people
around you were interesting and relevant to every woman in a workplace
today. The Denver Federal Center chapter is a great way to meet other
professional women with different backgrounds, interests and jobs. I
thought it was interesting how Amy pointed out several times you should
network whenever you can! The more people you know, the higher you can
reach in your career and even in life. What a great presentation!”

"Amy made so many good points. We need to help other women;
we need to seek out the help of other women. We need to have a network.
That’s where FEW and other professional organizations come in.
I could really understand her career experiences because I am in
the same male dominated field and have had similar experiences with
men who have refused to deal with me because of my gender or don’t
take me seriously because of it.
Amy talked about mentors and I realized that I have not had a good
technical mentor in my career. I have not had a female mentor. I have
not really ever had a mentor. I think FEW will give me a better opportunity
to connect with someone who may be a mentor to me. I thought about the
women I may have had an influence on in the capacity of mentor, coach
or champion. They are all in my personal life, not my professional life.
I thought about where I was 5 years ago, where I am now and why.
I have gotten complacent and stopped giving 110% to my career and stopped
actively learning about developments in my field. My career has become
a job. Joining FEW and being around women who are supportive of setting
and reaching goals is my first step in trying to break out of that and
get my career back on track.
Amy talked about the fear of connecting. Fear is a big reason why
I have not gotten involved in professional organizations or applied
for many jobs and why I am here, in the same job and the same organization
that I was in 5 years ago. I’m not sure exactly what I am afraid
of though.
Amy pointed out that we have to advocate for ourselves. Nobody
else is better at it. I used to do that – I haven’t for
a while. I will now. We all need to take an assessment of ourselves
periodically and Amy’s presentation has motivated me to do so.
It was a perfect time for me to hear her message.
Amy’s challenge was simple. Her enthusiasm was infectious
and her point was well taken by me. I will accept her challenge and
attend an event for professionals in my field in the next month and
I will continue to participate in FEW meetings and strive to be more
active in the chapter."

“This presentation was very timely for me. It was just what
I needed. Some of the points I will take away are:
1. Pay more attention to who you meet - the story she shared about
the surgeon saving that women's life gave me goose bumps.
2. Make a difference for another woman at least once.
3. Champion women.
4. Have a networking attitude and pay attention.
5. Helping everyone else first - it will eventually come around.
6. Seek the same for yourself.
Lastly I am going to take some time to address the questions she
presented because that will give me personal insight. Amy reminded me
of how important networking is and has motivated me to take some actions
in both my professional and personal life.
Thank you Amy for that wonderful presentation. You are positive,
energetic, and a great role model.”
